History

Rose Hill Burial Park ranks among the area’s largest and most distinguished cemeteries. Although it was officially founded in the 1920s, there are areas in the park where burials took place even earlier. The name Rose Hill comes from the landscaping and nursery service originally located on the property.

Rose Hill was an early leader in the cemetery world, becoming one of the first to set up an endowment care fund, ensuring that our grounds will be perpetually cared for.

Growing with the community

Over the years, many of Akron’s most prominent citizens have been laid to rest on our serene acres. Industrial and religious leaders, and even a Medal of Honor recipient, have been memorialized here.

As the park continued to grow, sections were added for people of certain organizations and religious beliefs—highlighting their service and faith. Today, Rose Hill has sections dedicated to those who served in the military, members of the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star, and people of the Jewish faith. In the early '80s, Rose Hill opened a beautiful mausoleum complex.

Adding a modern funeral home

In the early 1990s, Rose Hill Burial Park became the only cemetery in the area to have a funeral home adjacent to its lovely grounds, giving families an added convenience. Since that time, Rose Hill Funeral Home has been a vital part of the community.
